Named after Civil War hero Rear Admiral Samuel Francis duPont, Dupont Circle has a long and colorful history as a center for progressive thinking and social activism. Dupont Circle has a population of around 10,200, but it is principally a commercial and transportation hub. The median household income is around $112,000, which is considerably higher than the US median of around $85,000. About two-thirds of the adult population have a bachelor’s degree or higher.

The neighborhood is rich in cultural attractions, with museums, historic houses, and long-standing establishments found around the community. Among the top attractions here are The Phillips Collection, considered the first museum of modern art in the US; Mansion on O Street – an art center featuring a variety of exhibits, events, and performances; President Woodrow Wilson’s Georgian revival home; the historic Anderson House; and so much more. Dupont Circle, the neighborhood’s traffic circle, is a favorite haunt for locals, and the Dupont Circle fountain is one of DC’s most important landmarks.

Connecticut Avenue is where you’ll find many of Dupont Circle’s excellent restaurants, bars, and shops, many of which count among the best in the capital. Massachusetts Avenue is known for Embassy Row, a 2-mile stretch that hosts various embassies and diplomatic missions from around the world.

Also not to be missed is Dupont Circle’s very own Farmer’s Market, which is open every Sunday all year round.
